Note 57 – Regular and irregular verbs

For the background to my writing challenge, please read my first blog by clicking the following link – http://wp.me/p1x6Ui-4. If you would prefer to dive straight into note 57, then please read on…

REGULAR VERBS

The Pocket Writer’s Handbook explains that verbs are called regular if they conform to the regular pattern i.e.  “it’s past tense and past participle are formed by adding –ed to the base form.”

Base form of the Verb: To look

Present tense – look

Past tense/past participle – looked

IRREGULAR VERBS

The Pocket Writer’s Handbook also explains that verbs are called irregular “if they do not follow the standard pattern of adding -ed to the base form.”  Please see example below:

Base form of the Verb: To find

Present tense – find

Past tense/past participle – found (no -ed at the end)

Coming up tomorrow

Tomorrow I am going to blog about present and past participles.  I was going to blog about them today, but everything I read mentioned regular and irregular verbs, so I thought I’d blog about those first.

Hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend.  It’s been very hot here today.

Until tomorrow…

About Sandra Madeira

I am a working mum and entrepreneur with a passion for writing, coaching, mentoring and inspiring others. Subjects I tend to blog about are life skills, parenting, decluttering, worklife balance, career etc. I’ve been on a decluttering mission for years creating space in my house, garden and mind. In 2020 I challenged myself to declutter every day for a whole year and write about it daily. After that success I took on a challenge to change my career from accountant to life coach, and in early 2024 set up my own company. I continue to keep up with the decluttering, and now write daily about my home life and coaching business. Have a good day!
