Inbox vs. in box

I’m just going through what I believe to be the final edit of my book Juggling Life, Kids & You and I’m stuck on the word inbox. I have 4 instances of ‘inbox’ and 20 of ‘in box’. Which is the correct one?

On turning to Google, I cannot find anyone that has written in box as 2 different words, nor can I find a blog with the title inbox vs. in box. Am I now to assume that ‘inbox’ is correct?

I’ve just found the word inbox in the oxforddictionaries.com, which refers to it being an electronic folder in which emails are recieved. The online Collins Dictionary (collinsdictionary.com) describes inbox as an online folder on a computer, or a shallow container.

Although I’m now going to change all references in my book to inbox, I would appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Until next time…

Sandra

About Sandra Madeira

I am a working mum and entrepreneur with a passion for writing, coaching, mentoring and inspiring others. Subjects I tend to blog about are life skills, parenting, decluttering, worklife balance, career etc. I’ve been on a decluttering mission for years creating space in my house, garden and mind. In 2020 I challenged myself to declutter every day for a whole year and write about it daily. After that success I took on a challenge to change my career from accountant to life coach, and in early 2024 set up my own company. I continue to keep up with the decluttering, and now write daily about my home life and coaching business. Have a good day! Before we even had electronic “inboxes”, we had wire baskets or wooden trays in our offices. Into these went our morning post or ‘work to do’ files. And there was a big label on it – IN-BOX. And on the other side a similar item clearly labelled ‘OUT-BOX’. Guess what was in there!
