This morning I was listening to Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah’s audio CD called Inbound Marketing and I am excited to tell you about one of their suggested tools, which is ‘Website Grader’ by HubSpot. It is a useful free tool which can show you how your website grades. It also identifies SEO problems and how popular you on the social media side.
The process is simple – it’s just 3 steps:
- Visit www.websitegrader.com
- Type in your website address
- Review results
Within seconds you will have a report which you can view online (a copy can also be sent to you be email). Whilst you are waiting for the report, it even gives you short messages to read which is a nice touch.
A few things that I discovered
What I learnt is that I need to spend some time looking at the analysis of my web pages – I didn’t know that I have page descriptions and meta descriptions missing on some of my sites. Also I didn’t even realise that search engines “penalise websites with domains that are set to expire soon” which made me think that I should maybe sign up for more than a year (if I can) on some of my other domains to show that I am serious about my websites.
Website grader also shows authoritative pages linking to you (the more the better apparently).
Try it today – it can be an extremely good eye opener. Even if you only learn one thing, it may improve the performance of your website or blog.
If you choose to try it, please leave me a comment to let me know how you get on.
Until tomorrow…
